Wilfried Zaha’s importance to Crystal Palace was once again evident in the 3-2 victory over now-relegated Cardiff at the weekend, with the Ivorian netting the all-important opener with a few quick turns on the edge of the box before slotting past an unsighted Neil Etheridge.
Another wondrous Wilf performance means further speculation about the number 11’s future at Selhurst Park. Many pundits, players, Roy Hodgson and even the player himself have commented on the situation, now Andros Townsend has discussed what the coming years may hold for his partner in crime.
What did he say?
Well, in quotes taken from The Evening Standard, the Eagles number 10 had this to say:
“We’re lucky to have him at Palace and hopefully we can keep him for a little bit longer.
“If you see some of the stuff he does in training on a day-to-day basis, it’s incredible.
“But if that day does come this summer, next summer or the summer after where he feels like he has to move on, we’ll give him our best wishes.”
Inevitable exit
If you read between the lines it’s clear that Townsend expects Zaha to leave, if not this summer then the next, or perhaps the one after. For the left-footed winger, it’s not about if Palace can keep their talisman, it’s about how long they can keep him before the inevitable happens.

The fleet-footed magician has made clear his desire to play Champions League football and so, unless Palace can conjure up some truly special league finishes in the coming years, it seems that hunger to further his career may soon outweigh the love for his boyhood club.
With 10 goals and eight assists to his name in the league this campaign, Zaha clearly has the ability to play for one of Europe’s top clubs and, given what he has already done for the SE25 outfit, few would blame him if he decided to pursue his dreams, Townsend included.
