The two matches in Division Two ended in predictable draws, with neither match reaching a second-innings stage. The rain had frustrated Somerset’s chances to gain a big lead at the top in their match against bottom-placed Glamorgan. Somerset reached 400 for 6 at Sophia Gardens, thanks mainly to Justin Langer’s century, and there were fifties too for Neil McKenzie, on his Somerset debut, and Wes Durston. It was a similar story for mid-table Northamptonshire and Middlesex at Northampton. In response to Middlesex’s 400, Northants piled up 335 for 9, Lance Klusener top scoring with 89 while David Wigley made a career-best 70.
