The moans and groans from the fans in this department intensified when the club, albeit amidst the player demanding more money, allowed Dominic Solanke to run his contract down and subsequently join Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Imagine, then, the outrage when, with England U20s trailing in the World Cup semi-final, Solanke steps up and scored a brace to reach the final for the first time in history.
