As reported by The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are hopeful of landing Real Madrid talent Gareth Bale next summer but fear the La Liga giants could demand David De Gea move in the opposite direction.
What’s the story?
De Gea’s full worth to the Red Devils was on full display this weekend when he made a world class save to deny Liverpool three points at Anfield and given his qualities, almost every team in the world would be happy with him between the sticks.
No surprise then that Real Madrid will do everything in their power to ensure he ends up back in La Liga. That’s according to The Mirror, who say the Spanish giants are only prepare to sell £85m-rated Gareth Bale if the goalkeeper moves as part of the deal.
The paper say Man United have been encouraged by Bale’s situation in Madrid, but is he worth saying goodbye to De Gea?
Match winners
While it’s clear David De Gea is a match winner for Manchester United, there’s no doubting that Gareth Bale could also be a difference maker for Jose Mourinho’s side.
With 70 goals and 55 assists for Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham Hotspur, Bale’s attacking prowess is potent, but would it be as unique and important contribution as what the goalkeeper currently offers at Old Trafford?
De Gea has kept over 100 clean sheets for United in his time at the club and this season the club have conceded just two goals in the English Premier League, a better defensive record than any team, in no small part thanks to the Spaniard.
Finding a goalkeeper on his level is arguably more difficult than finding a player who could provide a contribution like Bale’s and it’s for that reason that Mourinho should resist letting him go, even if it means they miss out on one of their transfer targets.
